Full time Children/Youth Pastor

Job Description- Children-Youth Pastor

I. Overview

Under the direction of the Pastor of English Ministries, the Children-Youth (CY) Pastor would oversee the children and youth ministry in the church. The CY Pastor would model and share God’s love to the young people and children in our church. The CY Pastor would wrestle in prayer for them and have a close relationship with God which would spill over to those around them. They would keep a safe environment for the children by being the champion of our church’s Plan to Protect guidelines. They would provide leadership and training to the dozens of volunteers that serve in this ministry. They would interact with the parents to see how best to minister to the children and young people. The CY Pastor would be the chair of the Children’s Ministry Core Group and work with our youth counselors which initiate and run our children and youth ministry.

II. Youth

Sunday School

Our CY Pastor would work with our teachers to help our young people grow up in learning to be a follower of Jesus Christ and what this looks like in their homes and schools. Currently we have two Sunday School classes for our youth that run from 11:00-12:30 for grades 7-8 and grades 9-10 that are attended by 10-15 people each.

GCY (God Centered Youth) Fellowship

Friday night is fellowship night at WCAC. Our stated goal for the youth is for the youth (grades 7-12) to own their faith and for this to be done in a fun and relational atmosphere. The CY Pastor would work with our youth and the youth counselors towards achieving this goal. We currently work towards this goal by a number of means including having a mix of Bible studies and relationally orientated events where our young people are encouraged to bring their unchurched family and friends. In addition we have an annual weekend youth retreat and we have service activities such as 30 Hour Famine.

III. Children

Worship and Sunday School

Our children are divided into preschool (ages 3-5) and elementary ages (6-12) for worship (9:30-10:50) and Sunday School (11:00-12:30). The CY Pastor would work with the Children’s Ministry Core Group to give direction, set curriculum and train volunteers for this ministry. We currently have about 25 children in this ministry.

VBS

The CY Pastor would oversee our Vacation Bible School which has been the major outreach vehicle for our children’s ministry. We have had dozens of unchurched children and over 80 children come to our VBS every year over the last several years. We follow up these children with regular "friendship events" to keep in contact with the children and their families.
